Live Webcasts from Limbe!!

The Revealed, a Czech Radio gorilla project, carries on in the Year of the Gorilla, focusing more than before on the protection of lowland gorillas in the wild. The project has become a partner of the Year of the Gorilla and is now planning live webcasts from Limbe Wildlife Center in Cameroon. The Revealed has also started working with legendary Richard Leakey and his WildlifeDirect project.

The webcasts are over. The Revealed (www.rozhlas.cz/therevealed) has prepared two live internet broadcasts from the Limbe Wildlife Centre in Cameroon. You can click here to see the first broadcast and here to see the second broadcast.

Although the live webcast from the Prague Zoo gorilla pavilion will continue, the main focus will shift towards gorillas in Africa, their natural environment, environmental protection in Africa, and related issues. At the same time, the project will continue collecting money for charitable efforts, and is planning educational activities aimed primarily at children in Africa. “With our long-time partner, the Limbe Wildlife Centre, we are planning live webcasts featuring gorillas at the centre. This is the first time we are going to do a thing like this and that constitutes a lot of risks which are even exacerbated by the conditions here in Africa. However we have tried lots of things before… We hope we will overcome all the obstacles we may encounter while working towards our present goal – live satellite broadcasting from the Limbe Wildlife Centre in Cameroon.”, says Miroslav Bobek, the project’s director.

The webcasts took place on Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, from 12 to 13 pm GMT.

The livestream featured a silverback, Chella, females Emma and Brighter, a baby, Adjibolo, and eleven other gorillas from LWC + of course the people who take care of them.

The Revealed team received the Innovation for Living Planet award from the hands of Greenpeace spokeswoman Lenka Borakova and actor Petr Vacek. “Greenpeace welcomes the use of modern technologies in environmental protection efforts,” said Borakova. “We highly esteem Czech Radio’s approach in this area. Greenpeace International bestows the Innovation for Living Planet award on the creators of the Revealed project for their use of such technologies in environmental education of the general public.”
