Green Island Foundation to Work on Two Environmental Projects

Although the population of the Seychelles is still, in comparison with other countries; relatively small, pressure on the environment and natural resources is growing across the archipelago too. The emphasis is now turning to ‘sustainability’ in each facet of life and the economy and the Green Island Foundation has now commenced work on two projects related to these goals.

A so called ‘integrated coastal zone management’ plan is being implemented along two beaches on the islands of Praslin and La Digue, bringing together tourism stakeholders, the business sector, communities and the administration all of which will be involved in discussions over resource use and resource allocation.

The two projects are funded by the European Union and will focus on such sensitive matters as beach erosion, overfishing, see weed and reef preservation but also look at general biodiversity and water quality issues.
